THE BEST OF MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA| CITY GUIDE
Melbourne is voted as the #1 city to live in the world and of course, in Australia. How can one resist visiting this fine city with that kind of ranking? I surely had to visit Melbourne first and foremost due to its reputation and the balanced life that it promote. I liked the mixture of a metro city combined with beautiful greenery and nearby beaches (a short tram ride from the CBD – central business district). Word on the street is that Melbourne is host to an incredible art scene also between street sightings and galleries. Don’t forget to check out the coffee as well which I will cover deeper in another post! Coffee, art, and excursions to the beach…now, that’s my kind of city! Check out what to do when in Melbourne:
YARRA RIVER WALK: I absolutely love the scene along the Yarra River. If you started from the Docklands waterfront, you can walk the long stretch and pass many places like the Crowne casino and the Melbourne Exhibition Center. Not to mention, it is a very relaxed atmosphere apart from weekends that are host to various festivals.
ST.KILDA BEACH AND AMUSEMENT PARK: A classic amusement park which is a hit with youngsters mostly, but a colorful playground nonetheless. Take a tram from the CBD and reach St.Kilda in no time which is likely the most popular beach amongst the locals. A boardwalk scene that looks straight out of California.
HOSIER LANE AND GRAFFITI STREET ART: Well-know for snapping Instagram shots an usually flooded with tourists are the street lanes of Melbourne not far from Flinders Street station. There are several lanes you can visit including Hosier Lane. Graffiti art is covered wall to wall and if you visit on a regular basis the art form is constantly changing.
ST.PAUL’S CATHEDRAL: Located in the heart of Melbourne directly across from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. A European-inspired Christian church neo-Gothic transitional style.
ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS: An incredible location to visit and one of the best gardens I’ve seen in a western country. The garden was beautifully manicured and has a quaint lake, rose gardens galore, and even greenhouses. It was such an enourmous size that I definitely recommened a couple of days to fully explore it.
