When the winter season rolled in, suddenly, it was on my mind that I should visit Paris. Even though, I had never researched a trip to Paris nor considered visiting France at all. In fact, several other countries were on my list before France. Yet, once in London, you overhear how many residents within the city of London (surely Paris too) are known to take weekend trips to between these two grand cities. No wonder the travel urge had come over me shortly after being in London the first month. I somehow thought that I should definitely visit Paris for the winter break.

Before I knew it, I had befriended a French girl that lived on the outskirts of Paris and she learned about my “dream” to visit Paris for the holidays. I was simply curious about how to explore the city from a real Parisian. She told me that I could take the train from Kings Cross Station (see above photo) in Central London. I probably choose the most costly time to visit Paris – only several days before Christmas, but I had to go anyway! Once I took the time to book the ticket online through the Eurostar website, I was raring to leave university and go on my first holiday to France. I paid about 147 euros round-trip was was a lot of money for a student like me. However, you can certainly get cheaper rates if you don’t travel during the peak holidays (like I did) for less than 100 euros round-trip. As with any form of transport, make sure you arrive in advance to grab the best seats and prior to the gate closes.
In under three hours, you can set foot in Gare du Nord train station in Paris which happens to be quite impressive. From Gare du Nord, you can take trains to the outskirts of Paris on into the city center. The convenience of booking a ticket with Eurostar online (or even at the actual ticket office) makes it an attractive option for a day trip or a weekend getaway. The travel time is short and provide picturesque views, particularly, when travelling during the wintertime. During my journey, I got to view the beautiful snow-covered landscapes and snow flurries. There are plenty of sights you can visit in both cities also no matter how short or long the visit. That’s why I highly recommend this route whenever your visiting either Paris or London and want to escape on the weekend or for a future holiday.
